World AIDS Day/Day Without Art – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1, Hannah Community Center. The MSU Museum hosts a small display of South African traditional arts, as part of the “Siyazama” (Zulu for “we are trying”) project.

Austin City Limits – The PBS concert show will feature Coldplay playing a one-hour set Saturday, Dec. 17. The British band will play songs from Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y, as well as new songs with special guest, Michael Stipe of REM on two songs. On Saturday, Dec. 24, Joss Stone and Michael McDonald will take the stage as a mixture of young and old soul, recorded from earlier appearances. Blast from the Past: Art of the 1960s – Kresge Art Museum will feature a prolific spread of 55 works, including pop art, abstract expressionism, figurative expressionism, color field painting, geometric abstraction and op art. The exhibit will be at Kresge from Jan. 9- March 19.

Austin City Limits – Ryan Adams will be featured with a one-hour set on the PBS show Saturday, Jan. 21. The country rocker or alt-country folk singer/songwriter will perform songs from his new album, Jacksonville City Nights and sing with Tift Merritt, another country/rock phenom. Friday Night Film Series – The fim, High School, a documentary by Frederick Wiseman portraying the regimented life of high schoolers and how the system discourages individual expression and critical thought. The film will show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 in the MSU Main Library, W449.

MSU\’s Home for the Holidays – The MSU Symphony Orchestra, MSU Jazz and Voice faculty, University Choral Ensembles and Choral Union, and MSU Children\’s Choir will perform Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and free for students and 18 and under.

The Fags – The Detroit trio will play at the Temple Club Sunday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. with the Van Ermans and IEG. Tickets are $6 for 21+ and $8 for under 21. All ages are welcome.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra – A holiday music and lights extravaganza at the Palace of Auburn Hills and Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The symphonic rock orchestra will play one show at the Palace Friday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. and two shows Sunday, Dec. 11; one at 2:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster.

New Year\’s Eve Celebrations:
The Temple Club – DJ Scotty V and DJ Ruckus will spin in the main room of the club, while Legusta, The Family Tree and Jose Mango will perform in the lounge, all starting at 9 p.m. on the 31st. Tickets are $13 and are available in advance. 18+ are welcome after midnight.
Fifth Avenue Downtown – The Hard Lessons and The Muggs will play at the Detroit venue, starting at 8 p.m.

The Junior Varsity – at the Temple Club, Wednesday, Jan. 11. The show starts at 9 p.m., with $6 advanced tickets. 18 and up welcome.

The Gentleman Callers – The twang-rock foursome will have their CD release party Saturday, Jan. 14, at Mac\’s Bar in Lansing, four days after they visit The Impact radio station.
